Poziv NLB MUZA za mlade umetnike / NLB MUZA Public Call - At the intersection

NLB MUZA, program kulturnog nasleđa koji se sastoji od umetničkih i muzejskih kolekcija kao i muzeja i galerija NLB Grupe, poziva umetnike do 35 godina iz jugoistočne Evrope da prijave intermedijske radove nastale u proteklih pet godina na konkurs na osnovu kojeg će najviše pet radova biti odabrano za prvu “Bankarium” galeriju u Ljubljani. Pobednički rad biće otkupljen za SEE Art kolekciju.

Umetnici ili umetnički kolektivi pozvani su da prijave intermedijalne umetničke radove - kreirane na intersekciji umetnosti, nauke i novih tehnologija.

Konkurs je otvoren do 21. marta, a rezultati će biti objavljeni 21. maja.

At the intersection
International public call for young artists from SEE region

The NLB MUZA, cultural heritage programme, consisting of the Museum and Gallery, and the art, numismatic and museum collections of NLB, is launching an international public call for young artists from South-East Europe to participate with their artwork in the field of intermedia art in the first exhibition at the opening of the Bankarium Gallery. The winning artwork will be purchased for the SEE Art Collection.

The SEE Art Collection is part of the NLB MUZA programme. By ordering, purchasing, presenting and promoting contemporary art the NLB Group is becoming its main supporter and partner in Southeast Europe.

Object of Public Call

This international public call is open to young artists from Southeast Europe aged 35 and under to submit their works of art in the field of intermedia art created in the last five years. A maximum of five works of art will be selected for the first Bankarium Gallery opening exhibition located at Copova 3, Ljubljana, in the autumn of 2024. The winning work of art will be purchased for the SEE Art Collection.

Scope

We are looking for works of art that fit the concept of the SEE Art Collection, which represents different cultures, identities and memories that have over time created our shared history in the region of South-East Europe. This collection aims to improve the understanding and knowledge of different cultural and social environments, promoting tolerance and diversity, and at the same time giving birth to new sustainable ideas and actions with different expressions of contemporary art. The SEE Art Collection offers an authentic and unique artistic experience, provides inspiration and motivation, serves as a reflection of society and the environment, and plays an active role in the promotion of ideas about premonitions of the future.

The following criteria will be considered when selecting and evaluating artworks:
- artist’s age up to 35 years,
- sustainability, social and environmental engagement,
- experimentality,
- interactivity
- integration and focus on the region of South-East Europe,
- topicality and attractiveness.

Media and Technical Specifications

Artists or collectives of artists are required to submit intermedium works of art, i.e. works created at the intersection between art, science and new technologies.

Terms and Conditions

Slovenian and foreign citizens of legal age born after 1989 can participate in this call. Collectives of artists can also apply, if all their members are aged up to 35 years.

Upon application, applicants agree to the publication of their name (or artistic name) and title of the work of art submitted together with its description for the purpose of the exhibition.

Selected applicants will be notified of the results by e-mail at the address provided in the application form

Content of Application

- A description of the work of art in English (2000 words max.), stating the concept, content, technique, technology of the work of art submitted and the installation method.
- Images of the artwork (pdf/jpg/mpeg-4 format or link to video). You can provide several pictures and descriptions of your artwork, but in this case all the files of your graphic proposal must be compressed into a single pdf file.
- Author’s CV with a list of education references, exhibitions, residencies, awards and bibliography, supported by selected images (photo or video) and/or a web link.
Submit your CV with additional material as a single pdf/word file.

International Commission Proposals submitted to this public call will be evaluated by a five-member international expert commission as follows: Tevž Logar, independent curator, editor and writer, president of the NLB Art Council, Maja Kolarić, art historian, curator and director of the Belgrade Museum of Contemporary Art, member of the NLB Art Council, Mira Gaćina, art historian and critic, curator, member of the NLB Art Council, Ana Herman, NLB Communication Projects manager, Matko Mioč, Director, NLB Cultural Heritage.

Financial and Time Frame

The artwork will be purchased for €10,000 gross.

Submissions due by: 21 March 2024
Announcement of results: 21 May 2024

Estimated opening date of the exhibition: Autumn 2024
