An exhibition of Vukovar has been destroyed

An exhibition of Vukovar has been destroyed

The windows on the street gallery of Shock cooperative (Sok zadruga) in the center of Novi Sad - Shock Corridor, where an exhibition of photographs by Srdjan Veljovic "Vukovar - the killing of a city 1991-2016" was being displayed, were broken and vandalized by unknown perpetrators.

Veljovic’s exhibition was set on November 18 at the Gallery Shock Corridor 22 in the passage Milan Mladenovic in Zmaj Jovina Street, whose shop windows got smashed by vandals in the night between December 5 and 6 and displayed photographs were torn apart.

At first, two days ago, the shop windows were inscribed with markers: "What about killing Serbs?", "You bastards", "F*** you Vukovar" ...

Veljovic told that the intention of the exhibition was to remind using photographs of the destruction of Vukovar and that this vandalism did not surprise him.

"The first impression is that the vandals are lazy, because it took time for them to notice the exhibition and react. However, we had this in mind, because this type of theme produces these kinds of reactions. While I was choosing the photos, I tried to choose the ones that looked unquestionable and free from all policies about who started it first and who 'we' are and who 'they' are. The message behind this act is that there is still a young and angry world. I am sorry for that, because their lives are probably difficult. So if the destruction was aesthetically pleasing for them, then this is a benefit from the exhibition" said Veljovic the portal 021.

The exhibition was organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the conquest and destruction of Vukovar and was implemented in cooperation with the organization Women in Black.
